Medical Tests for Wellness at any Age

The enormous amount of health information available for patients can be overwhelming and confusing. In order to simplify the facts, an understandable reference tool from the The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has been released in April 2007. These new checklists (one for women, and one for men) have been designed to help people understand which medical checkup tests they need to stay healthy at any age. "Your Checklist for Health" shows at a glance what the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends regarding screening tests, preventive medicine and other healthy lifestyle behaviors. This pocket-sized brochure is intended to be taken with patients when they visit their health care providers to make it easier to talk about which screening tests each person might need. Unlike diagnostic tests, which clinicians order when they suspect someone has a disease, screening tests help check for problems before they have symptoms.
